Fermentation (kũgagatia), is a key practice across societies.

The Aagĩkũyũ people have been fermenting food and drinks for a long time, with evidence gathered around shared language across the African geography but that cannot be seen as a convergence. Rather archaeologists and geneticists have pointed out at a divergence – implying a shared source in the distant past.
